I spotted this car-truck-thing today, but don't know for sure what it is. I'm sure you Jalops can identify it!

Looks like a Falcon Ranchero to me.

Winner.

Definitely a ranchero

I think you're right.

Not only can we identify it, Ramblin is building one.

Not factory exhaust placement, that's for sure.

Yes. Yes it is. Subtle difference on the nose and front fenders - mine have sharp edges. This is a '61.

woohoo!

I've looked up the production numbers on these before, since I have a '63. There were just under 21,000 '61s made.

I think these are the full-chrome smoothies sold by WheelVintiques. There's supposed to be a front bumper, but the '60-'61 have a valance behind such that it's easy to just do without. My '63 has a gaping hole behind the front bumper I'll have to do some work to conceal/close up - going to a blade bumper from a '71 Mustang.

Factory exhaust is out the back, on (IIRC) the left.

In case you're wondering, the hood louvers aren't stock either. The '61 is the last year to have grill-mounted turn lights.
I actually wrote a whole thread ...

My former father-in-law has one. Always reeks of gas and nothing is power assisted. I loved driving it though. And we moved a piano in it once.
